Second Skin
Typically you will want to keep your second skin on for three to five days. During this period, you will likely get fluid buildup under the bandage. This is fine!
You can get this bandage wet, but do not submerge.
If the fluid leaks out (breaks the seal) or if you notice any redness around the edge of the bandage area, take it off and leave it off (Start the traditional aftercare).
Remove the second skin in the shower (it’s easier if you pull the bandage with the body not away from it), wash gently with a mild, unscented antibacterial soap, pat gently with a clean paper towel and apply unscented lotion. I like Aveeno or Lubriderm as needed.
If you experience irritation, redness or swelling for a prolonged time, green or yellow discharge, or excessive heat radiating from your tattoo, contact me and a physician as this may be a sign of infection.
After Care
Traditional Aftercare
Do not re-bandage.
When the bandage comes off, rinse off your tattoo with water and clean it with a mild, unscented antibacterial soap.
If your tattoo appears “shiny” in a few places, rewash and try to gently rub those spots with soap to see if you can get rid of the plasma.
Dab or pat the tattoo with a dry clean paper towel.
No scrubbing!
Once your tattoo is dry, apply a small amount of lotion (Aveeno or Lubriderm) and rub it in gently. Remove any excess lotion.
Repeat this up to 3x daily
Your tattoo will likely “flake” (Similar to a sunburn.) Do not pick at it! Just moisturize it a little bit.
Typical healing time can be up to 3 weeks.
During this time, I do not recommend:
Using any oil or vaseline based products while the tattoo is healing.
Submerging the tattoo in any water. This includes, lakes, pools, baths, etc.
Using sunscreen on the tattoo while it heals. You should keep it covered from the sun.
